As people read the transcript or watch the video, my hope is that they will think of the role of "organized programs" ihn helping volunteer mentors and role models connect with kids. Cabrini Connections is an example of an organized program. In the Program Locator on the T/MC Web site, visitors can learn the availability of organized programs in different zip codes of Chicago.

This is important because, when someone as visibile as Bill Cosby gives an example of mentoring, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs or 100 Black Men, he does not show how few kids are reached by these programs. Or, how much help these programs need to find volunteers and donors.

I'd love to see celebrities like Cosby use the map and Program Locator to say, "here's a few examples of tutoring/mentoringing. And, here's neighborhoods where we don't see any programs, yet we know there are kids there who would benefit if someone launched such programs."

By doing this celebrities would be helping to draw attention to all of the programs already operating, and drawing resources to them, and groups trying to fill voids.

If they'd do this consistently, we'd be able to help more kids connect with the types of adult supports he's advocating for.Tutor Mentor Connectionshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02140800580077672326noreply@blogger.com
